This lecture offers an introduction to political theory through a survey of classic works in political theory and philosophy. Special attention will be paid to works that have shaped several influential theoretical frames through which recent and contemporary political developments are interpreted. In additional to well-known household names such as Plato, Hobbes, Mill, and Marx, we will read some lesser appreciated, but valuable, works by women and people of color.

The language of the lecture will be English and the assignments, required for the Teilnahmeschein, must be written in English.
