This course is aimed at students with a higher level of English and designed to assist them in polishing their academic writing. Therefore, it will not review the very basics of grammar but will build elements of academic writing such as crafting strong introductions, structuring paragraphs and presenting arguments clearly and succinctlyParticipants will learn techniques for paraphrasing and practise summarising to avoid plagiarism; and use tools such as noun phrases, synonyms and connectors to achieve clarity and formality in their writing.

The course is interactive and practical, offering participants the opportunity to engage in in-depth conversation on topics relevant to the discipline of social and political sciences.  We will differentiate between formal and informal English and when to employ the appropriate register, both in the spoken and written formAccurate grammar will underpin our activities and there is flexibility in this course to address specific needs of the group should any issues be identified.
