The lecture attempts to build students' understanding and skill in leading and managing people and organizations. The objectives of this course are to raise the student's awareness of the centrality of organizational psychology to understanding organizational functioning and effectiveness and to show how an understanding of human behavior via the disciplinary basis of psychology deepens our analysis of organizations. Topics include motivation and satisfaction, personality, group performance, conflict and conflict management, leadership, organizational development and change management.
Upon completion of this course, students will (1) have a deeper understanding of how the study of organizational psychology can aid us in improving the performance and well being of people at work; (2) have understood how models, theories and concepts about organizational behavior can be used to promote the effectiveness of individuals, groups and organizations; (3) have developed skills for the analysis of individual, group and organizational functioning that enhances their effectiveness as managers, and (4) have developed a richer and more complex representation of organizational behavior, enabling them to contribute more effectively in the workplace.
