Digital Politics in East Asia

This course is designed primarily as an Elective for the Modern East Asian Studies (MEAS) programme.

Course Abstract
We will critically explore how digitization is transforming governance and political participation across East Asia. Ranging from Korea's leadership in e-government to China's alternative model of digital authoritarianism, from online philanthropy to digital resistance against political control and censorship, East Asia is at the forefront of the digital transformation of politics in many regards. Due to the large number of potentially relevant issues and focus countries, this seminar will offer an interactive format with optional session topics for students to choose from in the second half of the semester.
