This course discusses the theory of adaptation, reading three classic novels, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (1813), Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890) and Howard’s End by E. M. Forster (1910), alongside reworkings of these texts. At the end of the semester a workshop will treat several adaptations of Pride and Prejudice. The seminar will further enable students to discuss term paper topics, methods and writing techniques.
