During their mission to Wave, Sakura realises how behind she is in her training and decides to do something about it. She vows to become a shinobi her Village and her teammates can respect and depend on. But Sakura has always been a paper-ninja, so her first stop for inspiration is the library where she finds unexpected help in the form of one very bored tokujo who quickly goes on to become an integral part of her life. Soon, despite the neglect of her sensei and all odds seemingly against her, Sakura's destiny begins to change.

      Extra Infos

"Pulling My Wight" a Fix-it fic from the Naruto fandom. It concentrates on the fact that Sakura Haruno never got the same treatment or the opportunities as her male peers (Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha). On the side of the fandom that writes about the female characters of Naruto, this focus is prevalent because Kishimoto can't write female characters. Like, at all.

Because the fanfiction picks up at the beginning of the canon story and truly only deviates from it in later characters, there is much that gets explained within, but this is some helpful knowledge, I think:

The Naruto Universe is a fictional world largely populated by ninjas (shinobi and kunoichi). These ninja are trained in hidden villages and the head of the village is a Kage. In the case of Konohagakure, in which the main characters reside, the kage is called Hokage. The shinobi system involves the study and mastery of various jutsu techniques involving ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu, most of them require a power source called chakra.

Sakura Haruno is not given much of a backstory by canon except for liking Sasuke and having her feud with ex-best-friend Ino. Her parents for example were never shown until 2012 and that in a movie, so some people don't really take it as canon.

The Wave arc is known as the first time Team 7 is confronted by the realities of being ninja (so basically belonging to the military in this world).
