Course Goals:
- Students will gain practical experience in analysis of the psychological assumptions underlying the design and development of Intelligent Tutoring Systems.
- Students will gain practical experience in development and programing statistical and AI models used in the creation of Intelligent Tutoring Systems using real-world data.
Course Description:
Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) are at the forefront of online education, offering personalized learning experiences through advanced statistical and AI models. This course is focused on the design and development of ITS, exploring both interpretable statistical methods and black-box machine learning algorithms. Students will examine the underlying psychological principles and assumptions these systems make about educational content, learners, and interactions of learners and content.
Through hands-on projects and real-world data analysis, students will:
- Learn various statistical and AI-driven approaches to modeling the learning process.
- Program and implement different ITS models.
- Critically evaluate interpretability of these models.
- Apply interdisciplinary knowledge from psychology, education, and computer science to enhance learning outcomes.
