The course “Allgemeine Psychologie I” (General Psychology I) offers a foundational introduction to the core concepts, methods, and findings of experimental psychology within the framework of cognitive science. Students become familiar with the fundamental cognitive processes that underlie human behavior and experience. Topics include sensation, perception, attention, prediction, timing and event tracking, speech, language, consciousness, memory, thinking, and decision-making. The course examines how humans acquire, process, and store information, and how these processes interact to shape our understanding of the world. Students engage with both classic and contemporary experimental approaches, developing skills in hypothesis formation and data interpretation. Emphasizing the scientific nature of psychology, the course highlights the importance of empirical research, critical thinking, and methodological rigor. By the end, students will be able to describe major theoretical models of key psychological functions, understand experimental designs in psychology, and apply fundamental concepts to real-world examples of human cognition and behavior.
