What things and practices are how and why being deemed economic? How is the economy produced in and through socio-technical processes? What are the implications of space, place, territory, landscape and environment in these economisation processes? How does economisation transform place and space? These are some of the fundamental questions that the course will address. First, we will discuss foundational contributions to the social studies of marketisation, informed by Actor-Network Theory and other strands of Science and Technology Studies. Secondly, we will elaborate on some refinements to the geographies of marketisation through the lens of assetisation, valuation and platformisation. Finally, we will explore recent empirical phenomena in relation to economisation and develop our own understanding of processes such as ecologisation, logistification, financialisation, digitisation, datafication, automation, and experimentation.
