This Master seminar offers an introduction to the field of Memory Studies with a special focus on transcultural processes of remembering. We will study key theories of transcultural memory (e.g. ‘cosmopolitan memory’, ‘multidirectional memory’) and analyse selected media of memory (films, novels, autobiography) in order to understand how narratives and images about the past can ‘travel’ across time and space.
