In this seminar, we will discuss current developments in early foreign language teaching. The seminar is linked to the virtual international conference ‘Advances in Teaching Foreign Languages to Young Learners’ (ATFLY 2025). The conference will take place on 19 and 20 June 2025 and is organised by the Goethe University and the University of Leipzig. We discuss the role of research for the primary EFL classroom, explore different research approaches and examine research findings in the context of current issues in early foreign language learning. Students on all teacher training programmes are welcome to participate and get a current and differentiated picture of English teaching in primary schools.
