The seminar offers a highly interactive and complex business simulation in which up to five students assume responsibility for running a fictitious company. Participants, in the role of the company management, make decisions in the areas of marketing, finance, production, human resources, and purchasing/procurement. In addition, the company competes with four other companies run by the other seminar participants. Hence, each seminar round is unique and shaped by the interplay of all market participants.
The seminar consists of the business simulation, which is played over three consecutive days. As part of a general meeting, the participants must then explain the company’s performance over the past years to their “shareholders” in a group presentation. In the written term paper, students evaluate the decisions made within a specific department against the background of the academic literature. This way, students deepen the practical business administration knowledge gained during their bachelor’s studies, learn the basics of business presentations, and acquire skills in academic writing.
