The seminar aims to investigate the historical significance of the sonnet, tracing its evolution from its humble beginnings to its enduring influence on the world of poetry.

Throughout the seminar, we will examine the sonnet's structure, themes, and poetic techniques, unravelling the intricate interplay between form and content. Through close readings, we will explore how poets employ rhyme schemes, metre, and other literary devices to convey their emotions, ideas, and experiences within the sonnet's concise and tightly woven framework.

By examining a diverse range of sonnets, we will also discuss how different literary movements and cultural shifts have impacted the sonnet's content and themes. From the passionate Petrarchan sonnets to the introspective metaphysical sonnets of John Donne, and from the romantic outpourings of the Romantic era to the experimental sonnets of modernists like TS Eliot, we will witness the evolution and adaptability of the sonnet across time.
