The introductory lecture to the Master in Anglophone Literatures, Cultures and Media will provide an overview over theoretical approaches to the three central areas covered by the course of study: literature, cultural/ transcultural studies and media studies. Its main aim is to provide Master students from various backgrounds with a joint critical terminology. The lecture series is accompanied by a seminar in which the different theories and approaches will be brought into a productive dialogue with literary texts.
Please note: This lecture is obligatory for all ALCM students in their first semester.
The lecture series can also be attended by advanced teacher students.
ALCM Master students should attend both the lecture course and the accompanying seminar in order to complete Module 1.
In the seminar, we will discuss the theories and methods presented in the ALCM introductory lectures. We will test how they may be used to gain new insights into a range of literary texts and their interrelations with cultural and mediated contexts. In particular, we will focus on how literature – as text(ure) - manages to reinvent itself in order to stay (relevant). And, conversely, how and why different audiences (historically speaking or in terms of their positionalities) encounter the same texts quite differently.- Trainer/in: Heidi Liedke
