The aim of the course is a close reading, detailed discussion and a deepened understanding of a modernist classic: James Joyce's novel Ulysses (1922). We will study intertextual references as well as the cultural, literary and political contexts of Joyce’s writing. A key concern will be (new) narratological approaches to the experimental styles of Ulysses.
