Discoursing Populism: Types, Typologies and Contexts

Honestly, prior to this text I had a very basic understanding of what populism was and the word itself carried a rather negative connotation I didn't quite get. Most I knew about it was related to Donald Trump and the Republican Party and their tendency to amass public support by categorising the Democrats as liars, brain-washers and the sort when it came to matters such as gender, sexuality, and racism. The heavy denial of climate exchange and refusal to listen to scientists is included there and was not surprised to see it mentioned in the text (more specifcally: post-truth populism section).

Also, there have not been many questions arising from reading the text but I would like us to perhaps discuss more what Mbembe meant by “the violence of ‘brother’ towards ‘brother’ and the status of the ‘sister’ and the ‘mother’ in the midst of fratricide” (181).
