The text What Is a Minor Literature? Discusses the roots and linguistic production of literature from minorities. The example used is Franz Kafka and the literature produced by the Jewish minority in Prague that spoke and wrote a form of German influenced by Czech and Yiddish. With three traits of minor literature, the text narrows down its characteristics, which deterritorialize the language, connect the individual to a political immediacy and enunciate the collective assemblage. As a conclusion, the text claims that said characteristics gave Kafka the possibility for his inventory literature.
Whilst I do agree that Kafka´s pieces of literature are highly influenced by his experience of growing up as a german-speaking jew in Prague, it is also important to consider his individual character. Before the Law is a short story about a foreign man trying to enter a law, which is protected by a gatekeeper. One could link that story to the shared generational experience of the ostracism of the Jewish community in Prague, however, Kafka was also struggling with various mental disorders. Therefore it is hard to simplify minor literature with only its relation to politics and the collective, but to also consider the individuals experience.
