In chapter 26, it is described how the Derg made a number of cosmetic changes including changing names of institutions, such as the hospital (or the university in another instance) and how they resorted to many arrests and executions. Besides the usual socialist slogans, emphasis was also put onfriendly relations with other socialist/communist countries and their military support. The chapter also mentions how the people were promised a bloodless coup, which proved not to be true, as the extent of the blood shed is discussed in chapter 22. It is also mentioned that by that point, people are fully aware of these mass killings and that they had already lost trust for the regime. (p.119-121)
