The caste system is unfortunately still very prevailing in India and other South Asian countries despite its harmful and discriminatory use and effects. Although Untouchability was legally abolished in the 1950s, I still hear stories about caste-based discrimination, not only from India but also from members of different South Asian communities in the West. No matter what caste someone belongs to, it will undoubtedly influence their self-concept and entire identity.
