In chapter 26 it is described how the Derg used a common populist strategy to promise „the people“ a better future and present themselves as one of them and understanding of their struggles. It is mentioned that this has been promised to be done without violence, however in this chapter it becomes clear that this has not been the case and the people are losing trust in the regime and don’t believe their promises and announcements anymore. As a result rebellious events happen more and more often that the regime is for example trying to counteract with curfews.
