Of Bakers and Wizards: British identity through popular media

Whether you're reading Harry Potter or more recent urban fantasy like Ben Aaronovitch’s Rivers of London, watching a James Bond film, or even comfort-watching The Great British Bake Off or getting design inspo on Interior Design Masters: British media often, more or less overtly, present you with a very particular image of what it means to be British.

We'll look at what particular ideas of Britishness are transported in different cases and how these literary and visual narratives reflect and reproduce both cultural memory and current debates around national identity in the UK.
