Telecollaboration and virtual exchange involve using online communication tools to connect language learners from different geographical areas. The goal is to enhance their foreign language proficiency and intercultural understanding through joint tasks and projects. Research has highlighted the effectiveness of this approach in fostering collaborative learning and promoting intercultural awareness (O’Dowd 2021). In this class theories of (inter-)cultural communicative will be introduced. The theoretical assumptions will be used to understand the potential of virtual exchange projects. Students will be invited to conduct a small-scale project with Slovakian EFL students in order to become aware of the chances and challenges for the EFL classroom.
